Dance Showcase at St. Peters School

Two choreographies by Marie Hermo Jensen will be shown at St. Peter’s School’s Dance Showcase on Thursday the 16th of September. Drifting was created in Raglan earlier this year with a group of year 11, who contributed to the choreography by making most of the material and rehearsing intensely over a three day period. Faces was choreographed and rehearsed over two terms of Expression Dance Club, which is an after school dance club on Thursdays at St. Peters School.

'Du Ett' to Dance Abundance Festival in Oulu, Finland

Stellaris DanceTheatre (Norway) has visited Abundance Dance Festival in Oulu, Finland regularly in recent years with various productions. This year the company participates with Du Ett (choreographed by Marie Hermo Jensen), as a contribution from Stellaris DanceTheatre. Du Ett is a part of Stellaris DanceTheatre’s projects for young choreographers. The choreography is participating in Oulu under the project Route B2 which is initiated through the Barents DanceCouncil.

Dance is building bridges

Hammerfest and Tornio in Finland are friendship towns. Stellaris DanceTheatre travels to Tornio to participate in school performances the 14th and 15th of September. Schoolchildren ages 13 - 18 years will experience Stellaris DanceTheatre on the dance floor with dancer and choreographer Titta Court and dance students from the local dancing school Stage.

Titta Court from Tornio, and Solveig Leinan-Hermo from Hammerfest, work closely together on various international dance projects. Both work actively in the Barents region, for instance as representatives in the Barents DanceCouncil (an organization for dance artists). It is through this work that we see how the ties between various individuals and groups link across the national boundaries. Dance is an international language that communicates more easily than the verbal language. This is work across national borders that contribute to knowledge about each other's culture and character, and our way to contribute to peace keeping.

Based on the friendship agreement between Tornio and Hammerfest, there is a strong desire from both parties that the collaboration between Tornio and Hammerfest will be strengthened. We have a historical and cultural past together. It is important that we who live and work in our environment, contribute in making the collaboration visible and initiate new experiences, that together can strengthen the ties between the locations.
